In the fifth instalment of its Top 20 categories, Great Golf introduced a list of the Top 20 gourmet golf resorts in the world. Amongst them WLG member clubs The Westin Resort Costa Navarino in Greece, Stoke Park in England and Trump Turnberry in Scotland.
Attentive followers of the World of Leading Golf idea know, that the association does not reduce its credo of utmost quality in golf to a golf course or any golf-relevant establishments. When sending out Mystery Testers, they are briefed on making critical assessments of the gastronomy and the prevailing ambience at a club house as well. After all, such items are key factors in enhancing the customers experience and are an essential prerequisite for a great day of golf.
While less versed travellers may think the Greek kitchen is made up mostly of Moussaka, Olives and grilled meats, the award-winning chefs at Costa Navarino serve a selected choice of ethnic and continental foods as well as Greek fusion and local fare at the resort’s diverse restaurants. When all incoming votes were counted at Great Golf magazine, Stoke Park Country Club, Spa & Hotel in Buckinghamshire was determined as winner and the world’s top gourmet golf resort. The estate’s convincing blend of outstanding golf course and three AA Rosette Humphry’s restaurant secured its place at the top. Having honed his culinary skills as right-hand man to French Michelin star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli. the restaurants executive chef Chris Wheeler not only creates stunning menus for the Humphry’s. He also supervises the menu and proceedings at the golf clubhouse, so that the kitchen’s niveau is high wherever one chooses to dine at Stoke Park.
