WLG WELCOMES NEW MEMBER KOELNER GOLFCLUB
Cologne’s fashionable golf venue demonstrates greatness in many ways
Having been founded in 2012, the World of Leading Golf new member Koelner Golfclub made a statement of being a young, modern and open-to-all-establishment. The target was to enable anyone who wishes to play golf to do so exactly in his or her fashion. Meaning, that the golf course needed to inspire and challenge the experienced player, while lesser players should not constantly be discouraged …
Not an easy task, even for an experienced course designer. The designated man for the creation of this biggest golf venue in North Rhine-Westphalia was Heinz Fehring, the former president of the PGAs of Europe. And he did so bearing in mind that many golfers need to be guided to consciously aim for the flag, not somewhere in the direction of the green. The result is two golf courses stretching across a carefully modelled countryside with soft ridges, a number of lakes and hundreds of trees and bushes, which serve to direct the golfers aim.
The Koelner Golfclub encompasses a total of 45 holes partitioned into an 18-hole Championship Course, a more forgiving 18-hole Links Course and a 9-hole Pitch Course. For more diversity, golfers get to pick from a number of tees at each hole, so members and more frequent players can choose between playing „just for fun“ or with true dedication.
Aside from the courses, the Koelner Golfclub also offers a great choice of practice facilities, including sheltered or even heated tee boxes, putting and chipping courses and a large Indoor-Green. At the Driving Range visitors will also get the chance to try Germany’s first TaylorMade Performance Lab (Fitting Center) or have their clubs professionally mended at the workshop.
Being a club, which has made having the choice part of its overall concept, there are, of course, a number of dining options to be found at the Koelner Golfclub too. Guests can take a seat in the show kitchen or find a cosy place in one of the two restaurants to enjoy anything from a German Currywust or a quick little pasta dish up to a fine-dining 3-course menu. The kitchen team takes great care in choosing organic local ingredients and making everything on the spot, be it the morning’s marmalade or the afternoon’s piece of cake. As Cologne is one of Germany’s most popular and bustling cities, visitors can also stay overnight in one of the modern-style guest rooms on the clubhouse’s second floor to start combine golf & sightseeing on a whim.
